A Dog Kennel: Safe, Secured, Strong

Want to keep your dog safe without being chained? We all know that putting pups on chains look so harsh, so why don’t you ask a friend if who also has a puppy what to do? or go to the nearest pet store and seek for a little advise? Keeping your dogs safe and secured doesn’t need to be always looking jagged to other people. There is one tool that you can use that can give your dog a place free from harm and that is a Dog Kennel. Though dogs might get some exercise in a kennel, their movements are restricted and they need to be taken out regularly. Ideal kennels provide enough space for a dog to move about freely and also keeps the dog from hurting guests or other people.

Single, double, triple and quad types are he different kinds of dog kennels that you can choose from. Using the single level kennel is more favoured among the others by dog owners, because it is hygienic for their pets and it is much easier to clean and than the other multi-level kennels. If one prefers multi-level kennels for more space to accommodate dog supplies then expect to have another cleaning responsibility, it should be clean at all times. Make sure to see that the kennel provides safety and comfort to your pet before making your choice.

There are some dog breeds that are longing to live happily with indoor settlement, still there some who fancy living outdoor to be more active and adapt to its surroundings. In such case, it is a necessity for dog owners to supply their lovely pets with a comfortable area that is free from any harm at a great distance. Letting your dog to live outside, is in fact has a good advantage for pets as they can be exposed to our environment and be closer to nature, plus all the fresh air that your dog might experience breathing. It is actually your choice if you are going to just build your own kennel, or look for dog kennels that are available on pet stores near you or online. Generally, kennels are square or rectangular in shape and made of either steel or wood, but some also come up with metal screens and posts, and some are made of aluminum, steel, or even bronze wires.

It is always more advisable to plan and choose kennels built with materials strong enough to endure any type weather. Your choice of kennel might alter depending on the size of your dog and how big will be the area you are planning to put it. Though it is a little of an investment for you to acquire such tool like a dog kennel, the investment is an important and a constructive one that is needed to support the safety and comfort of your pet.

Some materials might not be durable enough to withstand the elements or they can be so soft that an aggressive dog might chew them away. Extra effort should always be given in checking the quality of the kennel that you are going to purchase. You should also check if there are any parts in the kennel that might hurt your pet and in the later part will give any injuries to it.

Used Dog Agility Equipment

Are your goals to develop a deeper bonding with your dog by taking agility classes together, having fun, and seeing how far you and your dog can progress with agility skills? Do you have a timid dog and want to develop confidence in him? Or do you have a high drive dog and want to help him burn energy in a controlled manner? Do you want to do agility as a just for fun activity or are you setting your sights on making it to the nationals and becoming an agility instructor? All the previous factors are important to consider when purchasing your equipment.

An agility course has contact equipment, jumps, weaves, tunnels, closed tunnel, and possibly a pause table (depending on your agility venue). It would be wonderful have a full course of dog agility equipment in your backyard, but its not necessary to learn the sport. Contact equipment consists of dog-walks, A-frames, and teeters. It is a good idea to have at least one contact obstacle. Many people select to purchase a teeter because the motion often causes a dog hesitation. If you can't fit a regulation piece of equipment in your yard, consider an 8' dog-walk instead of a 12' or even select from mini-contact equipment that is available to train your dog on.

Jumps. You can never have enough single jumps, but you also might think about a double jump or triple jump. If you cannot purchase a double or triple jump, you can place two or three single jumps together to practice. Eight single jumps give you lots of drills and exercises to practice and interchange.

Tunnels, chutes, and tables are variations to add to your course. Tire jumps are very popular to have in backyard training. Pause tables are essential in our agility training program. They are our center and focal point for developing our directional commands and building distance.

Weaves, critical for having at home. The type of weave to purchase depends on your method of teaching. Is your agility class using weave chutes, angled weaves, or straight lined weaves. If your instructor is teaching a specific method, than its easiest to purchase the same type of weaves. We have trained five different agility dogs, each with a different method and in the end they all have nice weaves.

There are a variety of training aids that can help you develop the behavior you want from your dog on the equipment. Buja boards are excellent for timid dogs that need to build confidence slowly. Contact trainers are great for back chaining your contact behavior, and they are smaller so you can bring them indoors for winter training also.

The Athletic Dog

There is another way of training your dog that will let him participate in a fun and action packed sporting activity, and it is called the Dog Agility Training. Dog agility training is another awesome way in training your dog. Agility training will test and strengthen your dog’s physical abilities, sense of balance, patience, control, and most of all the ability that you and your dog have to work well together as a team. Dog agility training is a good activity for you and your dog to spend quality time together.

Dog agility is an exciting sport originated in England in 1978 in which a handler directs the dog through an obstacle course.  After a widespread success of it, it is now gaining big time popularity and known worldwide.

The sport of agility needs several various accessories and obstacles in which your dog must pass on over, under, around, and in and out of, in the best possible time, with the least amount of mistakes in order to win the competition. The course may have your dog weaving in and out of poles, literally jumping through hoops, skillfully mastering the art of a balance beam or teeter totter type object, crawling through tunnels, leaping over bars and practicing patience on a pause table.

Engaging your dog in this kind of activity for the first time needs a good and right preparation. There are agility training schools that your dog might be in for proper understanding on the basics of obedience and know how to properly behave around many other dogs and people. Dog agility training classes are offered for many different skill levels including classes that cater to the puppy, beginner, intermediate, advanced, master and competition level dogs.

There is a training method that most of the dog agility training centers or schools  are using to easily catch your dog’s interest on the activity, it is called the positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is a dog agility training method in reward basis, meaning, When your dog has successfully performed a specific action or maneuver upon being given the proper cue, you can then reward him with a treat. Dogs are easily motivated by food related treats, whereas others prefer a favorite toy or tennis ball. Either way, it doesn’t matter, as long as you can determine what your dogs motivating factor is and incorporate that into his agility-training program.
Dog agility training also helps in strengthen your dog’s health because it keeps your dog on being active all day and be active.

It may sound hard and needs a lot of time in training but always keep in your mind that with patience and persistence any dog can learn to skillfully master an agility course. Just take it as another playful day every time you and your dog are on training.

Why You Should Get a Cat Flap?

Are you planning to get a new cat or you already have a cat that is very enthusiastic to go outside and explore the surroundings then go back to your house without any difficulty? Consider setting up a cat flap to keep your lovely kitty from rising you up from sleep unexpectedly in the middle of the night for entry.

What is a cat flap? A cat flap or cat door is a hinged flap set into a door, wall or window to allow your cat to enter and exit a house on their own without needing to plead for help from a human, while offering a degree of protection against wind, rain, and larger-bodied intruders entering the dwelling.

If you already have decided to by a cat flap for your feline friend, you might still be wondering either you install one or not, and what type you should be buying that will fit you need. Before buying any product you must know its advantages and disadvantages in order for you have an idea on how will you use the product in a proper way, and this is what we are going to discuss in this article.

Why you should get a cat flap?

A cat is an explorer by nature, they always want to come and go here and there, and as they please you, you might end up finding yourself getting up and down all the time just to open and close the door.

Cats has a way of telling their owner if they want to go out and it is by meowing or by scratching, and if you have a cat flap installed on your door, these kind of doings will be lessen.

There are also chances that your cat will be locked out and shut in all day if you are out at work. With a cat flap would be free to do as they please and you wouldn't have to worry about them being stuck outside in bad weather just because you're not home to let them in.

Having cat flap will also keep you from waiting at your back door every night for your cat, and you will be able to sleep early without having any worries that you might locked out your cat and spend the cold night outside.

Installing it is as easy as 1, 2, 3… all you need is a drill (for creating holes in corners) and a hacksaw to cut out the hole and a screw driver to fix the it in place, it takes less than an hour without any hassle.
You should also keep in mind the type of door you have because some cat flaps do not suit for a certain type of door.

So, in order to make that special relationship between you and your dog, you need to train him in and out of your house. Taking your dog for a walk can be a good bonding for the both of you but it requires proper training for your dog because he might too aggressive. In times that your dog’s emotion is out of control or in any unwanted behavior, you will be needing a tool that could help you with the situation, and that tool is a dog collar or dog training collar.

What is dog training collar? It is a material that you can use for controlling a dog manually, as they provide a handle for grabbing. A dog training collar is put around your dog’s neck to have a full control on him; often it is juxtaposed with leash. You can also use dog collars for identification or for fashion purposes.
There actually different types of dog training collars that you can choose from for dog. Let me list some for your benefit.

1.       Everyday Collars – These are the ordinary collars for the owners who only seek for a simple dog collar that they can use every day. Available in a variety of materials, colors and styles. Always be sure your dog's collar has a name tag with your current contact information.

2.       Metal Prong Collars – In spite of it being crude-looking, it is still effective for strong and stubborn dogs, and that made it a hit for many trainers.

3.       Chain Slip Collars – These dog training collars are designed for training purposes only. It is actually not recommended for many of the trainers because it might hurt your dog and could damage your dog’s neck. If you still want to use it, just be sure you know how to use it properly. It is also called as choked chains.

4.       Martingale Collars - Martingale collars are used to prevent dogs from slipping out of collars while walking on a leash, that is why it is also called slip collars. Often made out of nylon or similar material, Martingale collars are available in a variety of colors and designs.

5.       Break-Away Collars - Also for everyday use, but has a distinctive safety aspect to keep your dog from choking. Nevertheless, you can still use it for walking on a leash. The collar will break away if the loop becomes caught on something and your dog pulls away.

Wash It Away

You have a dog and you bought a dog pen for him to have alone time and play, but have you ever thought that having a dog pen came with a responsibility for cleanliness? What I am trying to say here is that, dog pens needs to be cleaned. Dog pen cannot wash itself alone, of course you have to clean it. Maybe there are times you thought that a strong strain and wash away your dos’s poo-poo and pee-pee, cleaning your dog pen cannot go that way. As an owner who always wants to keep the health of his adorable four legged pal you need to be very efficient on cleaning the place where he always stay. Dog pens are prone to germs and bacteria, so it has to be cleaned regularly. Cleaning your dog pen may avoid you from bringing your pet on vet clinic because he is having a clean and healthy life. There are things that you will be needing on cleaning the dog pen, you cannot clean it with just your own bare hands alone.

Here is what you need: face mask, rubber gloves, disinfectant, poop scooper, sprayer, plastic/trash bags, sponge or sponge mop, bucket, broom and garden hose. When you already have all of these things prepared, go get your dog out of the pen and start cleaning it. But wait, do have any idea how to clean the dog pen properly? Have you tried cleaning it before? If it is your first time, I will give some easy good steps on how to clean it.

Read up the following instructions, it may help you if not a lot, maybe even for just little.

  1. Get your dog out of the pen. Place your dog on a separate place far from where you have decided to clean the dog pen. You may also ask some favor from a friend or anyone from your neighborhood if you can leave your pet for a little time while you are cleaning.

  1. Wear the face mask then put on your rubber gloves. These things will protect you from direct contact from dirt and from inhaling chemicals that is not good for your health, and also from contamination.

  1. Take of the bedding and your dog’s toys, food, water bowl and anything inside the dog pen.

  1. Expel those dirt and trash inside the pen by using a broom, or you can just pick it up.

  1. In a bucket full of water put on the disinfectant (you may read also the instructions on the label if you want). You have options on which one you want to use actually, there are disinfectants available in liquid form, powder and tablet. You may ask some advice from your vet or from the store assistant where you are buying (Pet stores also sell disinfectants) on which one you can use for the dog pen. Using disinfectants are more preferable than bleach as they are safer.

  1. When the disinfectant is already diluted start applying it on the pen. Use the sponge mop or sponge for cleaning the fencing and the floor area. Use the sprayer if needed.

  1. If you think it is clean enough you may leave it with the sunlight and let it dry. It is important to dry the dog pen totally before putting on your dog and its supplies inside, because it easily attracts dirt when it is wet.

  1. Take the trash bags where it belongs.

There you go, you just learned how to clean the dog pen properly. Always remember that, just like human beings dogs also needs to have a clean and healthier place to live. Dog pens are not that hard to clean, if you start to smell something weird and it is not you maybe it is the dog pen.

Pet eating management doesn’t need to be that hard, like these days we have so many tools to use to make everything easy. In pet supplies there is this dog feeder that you can use to easily manage your dog’s eating schedule. There are manual dog feeder that you can use and the other one is the automatic dog feeder. The manual dog feeder like what its name implies, you use it to feed your dog manually; put a dog food on it and give it to your dog. The automatic dog feeder on the other hand is the opposite, you will put the dog food inside its container and it will allow your dog to eat on his own throughout the day when he or she started to get hungry. Automatic dog feeders release an enough amount of food and keep the remaining fresh and secure for the later time.

Uses of Dog Crates

A Dog Crate is a cage-like equipment where a dog can be kept for transportation or security purposes. It is usually made of metal wire or molded plastic and covered with fabric to protect your dogs from the burning heat of the sun and for him to feel more comfortable and relaxed. Some dog crates can be folded for storage while some are fixed.

Crating your dog may look a little mean for your pet and may have a psychological impact to him, but if you know how to use it properly and understand why your dog should be crated, you and your dog will have a marvelous relationship.

Dog crates are used as some kind of a bedroom for you pet dog, it is your dog’s own personal place where he can relax. It is also used to keep your dog safe from any harm that could happen when you are not in control of him. Some dog trainers or owners who are very much attached to their pets also use a dog crate as a carrier when travelling on a long car ride or in a flight, but if they don’t like to travel with their pets, it the place for the dog to put them away from doing potty things around the house. Dog crates can also be used as a punishment place for your dogs but it is not advisable to use it that way, because dog crates as I’ve mentioned earlier should be a personal comfortable place for your dog where he can unwind.
